Meet your teacher
Nica is a teacher, mom, and a lifelong learner. She enjoys getting to know people and cultures through food and the arts. Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, she took up Psychology in an effort to understand people and their behaviour further. A career path in education was a mere accident, as she took a break from the corporate world and fell in love with children’s innate curiosity. This led her to pursue her Master’s degree in Literacy and General Childhood Education at Bank Street College in New York City. After three years in NYC, she moved to Singapore and taught pre-K using inquiry-based learning. She is currently teaching 2nd and 3rd grade in Wellington, New Zealand, where she incorporates the best of her teaching experiences from all over the world while listening to the child’s needs and encouraging inquiry and independence.
